The Joints. Whenever bones form ajoint they are covered with a layer ofhighly polished cartilage. This givessome slight elasticity, and also reducesthe friction. Covering the cartilage is avery thin membrane which is constantlysecreting, or pouring out, a watery fluid,called the synovial fluid, or joint serves the same purpose as does oilto the wheels and joints of machinery.
