Liberty and Co department store, Regent Street, London, 1924. Artist: Bedford Lemere and Company.

Liberty and Co department store, Regent Street, London, 1924. Interior of Liberty's newly completed Arts and Crafts Tudor style department store, showing the gallery and light well. This extraordinary building was constructed in 1922-1924 using timbers from HMS 'Hindustan' and HMS 'Impregnable'. It was a remarkable reaction to the early 20th century vogue for stone dressed steel-framed buildings. The building was designed by Edwin Thomas Hall and his son, Edwin Stanley Hall. This photograph was commissioned by Higgs and Hill, builders.
