Sigard Knopf (1857-1940), German-born US physician. Knopf is best known as a specialist in the treatment of tuberculosis. He published various books on the subject and helped found the National Tuberculosis Association in 1904. He was a proponent of Eugenics and helped organise the First National Conference for Race Betterment. He called tuberculosis patients that bore children 'criminals' and proposed mandatory sterilisation of those patients that 'procreated wilfully'. Photographed in New York, USA, in 1911.
