Indeed, many writersdeny to them any serviceable functionwhatever. They allow them a certainsensitiveness to light, but that is all. If it is true, as seems probable, thatthese three little eyes, or ocelli, are anheirloom from Vespas distant but veryimportant ancestor the worm, then
