Gaillardias are among the showiest and most effective of hardy perennial plants ; beginning to flower in June, they continue one mass of bloom the entire season ; they will thrive in almost any position or in any soil, but respond freely to liberal feeding ; being perfectly hardy they require abso- lutely no protection, taking care of themselves. The flowers are large, from 2\ to oi inches in diameter ; they are pro- duced on long stems, and are excellent for cutting, and of the most gorgeous coloring. The centre is dark red brown, while the petals are variously marked with rings of brilliant scarlet crimson, orange and vermilion, and often a combina- tion of all these colors in one flower. Strong clumps for immediate effect 15 cts. each ; $ perdoz.; § per 100. Strong young plants, which will flower freely this Summer, 10 cts. each ; § per doz.' $ per 100. Qlechoma ( Nepeta) Variegata. ( Variegated Groundsel or Ground Ivy.) A most useful variegated creeper for growing over banks and stones in the rockery. 10 cts. each ; § per doz. Hardy Ornamental Grasses. For single specimens, beds or groups on the lawn, nothing gives a finer effect than these ; they are now largely used in prominent positions in many of the public parks, etc. Arundo Donax. A hardy Ornamental Grass, which grows from 9 to 12 feet high, frequently throwing up from 30 to 50 flower spikes.
