It can be traced, it is said,as farbackas 1280, when Hayes andRutherford were two Scottish chief-tains, fighting side by side withBaliol, William Wallace and RobertBruce. Both families belonged to thenobility, owned extensive estates,and had a large following. Misfor-tune ovwfaking the family, George Hayes left Scot-land in , and settled in Windsor, Conn. His sonGeorge was born in Windsor, and remained thereduring his life. Daniel Hayes, son of the latter, mar-ried Sarah Lee, and lived from the time of his mar-riage until his death in Simsbury, Conn.
