As they are ofthe permanent-magnet type, they possess many pointsof superiority to the moving-iron type constructionfound in the usual lower-priced meters. The complete movement is mounted in the case as aunit. A unique feature is that the moving element canbe taken from the movement simply by removing twoscrews on the side and of the pole-piece support. Theentire moving element and bearings can then be liftedout as a unit and can be replaced in exact position. This. Meter of 5-In. Diameter, With and Without Dial makes it possible to repair the meter without disturbingthe alignment of the magnetic circuit. Owing to theuse of an aluminum pointer, a light counterweight ispossible, resulting in a light movement and small wearon the pivot jewels. In proportion to the light weightthe high torque insures great accuracy for so small asize. The scales are 4 in. long, which is practically thesame length as the scales of many of the 7-in. full length of the pointer shows on the dial, thusmaking the meter as easy to read as a clock.
