Surfers check a map in the remote Montebello Islands off Western Australia

Surfers check a map in the remote Montebello Islands off Western Australia. British forces carried out three atomic weapon tests here, one in 1952 and two in 1956. The archipelago of about 174 islands was chosen for is remoteness, 130 kms off the coast of north western Australia. In fact, it's so remote and attracts so few visitors, that Google Earth records it only as a blur.
