He also claims that it ripens withMitchels Early, and is a firm berry that will stand shipment remarkably set quite a lot of plants last spring which I obtained from the originator, andthey have made a very tine growth of healthy vigorous plants. It is certainlyone of toe best growers on the place, and if it proves to be half as good asthe originator claims, it is well worth planting. EXCELSIOR. EXCELSIOR. This is beyond doubt, the champion of all early marketberries. In fact, it has no competitor, as there is no other variety that I haveever seen or heard of, that ripens with Excel ;r. that will amwhern near com-pare with it in productiveness, good average size and firmness. Excelsior iscertainly the friend of the berry grower. The past season of 19U3 was verydisastrous to the berry crop in this immediate section. March wis warmenough for June, and forced everything in rapid tender growth Strawberryplants put on a vigorous new growth, and were in full bloom, when on themorning of April 5th,, everything whs frozen stiff, and all varieties, early andlate, were practically ruined; my entire crop being less than J normal. Any-one would naturally suppose, that the Excelsior being very early would havesuffered most, but the fact is, the Excelsior gave us more berries per acre underthese conditions than any other variety.
