Anaesthesia. Line being placed into the wrist of a patient to administer anaesthetic liquid prior to an operation. A cannula (pink), a hollow blunt tube, has been inserted into the wrist and is being taped into place. A tube, which will carry the drug, has been put in the cannula. Anaesthetics induce unconsciousness and so prevent the patient feeling any pain or discomfort during an operation.
