Standing peacefully and picturesquely isolated in a wood, the Church of St Leonard, better known as the Church-in-the-Wood was founded in the 13th Century on the site of an earlier 11th Century Chapel. Legends and miraculous events have been associated with it and its secluded setting has been praised by writers, including Charles Lamb. The Church is Grade II listed.
