The lion,presidency of the Theological Society isusually conferred on some outstandingpreacher or theologian, and as the occu-pancy of the office involves the delivery ofa special lecture, the society has been themeans of bringing some noted men to thecity, and of giving the public the benefitof hearing important deliverances, manyof which have afterwards been publishedin permanent Professor Cairns. The students at the Aberdeen Collegehave been drawn from a fairly wide area,but a large proportion have naturally comefrom the North of Scotland, while theHighlands and Islands have always beenstrongly represented.
