German War Postcard found in a raided trench by a British soldier fighting in the 2nd Battle of Ypres and kept as a souvenir. I have tried to identify this village with reference to the church, but have had no luck. The artist/photographer (name unknown) recording this image in 1914-15 would have little concept of the industrial-scale warfare yet to come.
