Kendal, Cumbria 25th November 2023 - A Moon Halo above the skies of Kendal in Cumbria. The phenomenon is the moon flight refracting through the high cirrus cloud, as ice crystals in the cirrus cloud (15,000-30,000ft) are almost always hexagonal, the ring tends to be the same size, a 22 degree diameter. In folklore they can mean anything from a bad omen, a stranger about to visit, witches plotting deeds. But really they are just the sun light reflecting off the moon, refracting through the cirrus.
