Elephants carved in store at Valluvar Kottam, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.

Valluvar Kottam is one of the modern landmarks of modern Chennai, Tamilnadu state, South India. The monument was constructed in 1976 in the memory of Thiruvalluvar, the classical Tamil poet and saint who wrote his famous Thirukkurals about 2,000 years before. The construction of Valluvar Kottam is like a temple chariot, and it is a replica of the temple chariot in Thiruvarur. A magnificent life-size statue of the immortal saint Thiruvalluvar stands majestically atop the 39 meter high chariot.
