Transporting Brazil made Volkswagens beetles along the Rio Negro (Amazon) between Belem and Manaus in 1973

The mighty river Amazon has always served the people who live close to its banks with means of a livelihood whether from the excellent fish it provides the fruits and timber from the surrounding forest or the transportation it provides for commuting between towns and settlements along its stretches or those of the smaller tributaries. The River is a very useful commercial lifeline for the economy of Brazil and these VW Beetles produced in the Country and being transported from Belen up-river to Manaus by barge speak volumes for the lack of land roads in this part of the Amazon jungle.
