Sample tubes in DNA research. A gloved hand places a sample tube onto a rotary wheel. The wheel has clips to hold the tubes in position. Several tubes containing fluid are seen in the clips. A rotary wheel provides constant but gentle mixing of fluids and is commonly used in genetic research. Plastic sample tubes such as the ones seen here are commonly used in DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) research. These tubes allow the easy handling of small volumes of liquid, they also have a tight fitting cap and may be used in a small bench-top centrifuge.
