Doi Inthanon National Park Attractions -The Twin Royal Stupas dedicated to His Majesty The King and Queen of Thailand
Located at the summit of Doi Inthanon National Park, the Twin Royal Stupas (Phra Maha Dhatu Nabha Metaneedol and Nabhapol Bhumisiri) is a must-see attraction in Chiang Mai. The stupas were built by the Royal Thai Air Force to commemorate Their Majesties The King’s and Queen’s 60th Birthday Anniversary in 1987 and 1992 respectively. Standing gracefully at an elevation of 2146 meters above sea level, the stupas enshrine the relics of the Lord Buddha and Buddha images; one called Naphamethinidon (delicated to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand), meaning ‘by the strength of the land and air’, and the other, Naphaphonphumisiri (delicated to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand), meaning ‘being the strength of the air and the grace of the land’. Besides overlooking the magnificent scenery of Doi Inthanon, I simply fell in love with the plants and the landscape and I highly recommend this place to all plant lovers. They do have many colourful flowering plants found in the temperate region. All visitors are expected to dress appropriately at all time and escalators are installed for individuals with disabilities. The Stupas are open from to daily.
