Born in Suwalk, Geberne, Russia, July 2, 1865, he came to America inNovember, 1885, and went direct to Buffalo, N. Y., where an aunt was he obtained no salary, working for his board only. After this severe apprenticeship he worked for two years at $10 per monthand board, and out of this meager salary he saved enough to purchase a horseand wagon.
