Shinsen-en, "Sacred Spring Garden" was the original Imperial Palace, today part of the site of the Tokugawa-built Nijo Castle. The pond is about one tenth of its original size. This was the scene where imperial poetry was read, participants moon-viewed while drinking tea and sake wines.
