. Bulletin - United States National Museum. Science. THE OPALINID CILIATE INFUSORIANS 233 third mm. by mm., fourth mm. by mm., fifth mm. by mm., sixth mm. by mm., seventh mm. by mm.; diameter of endospherule mm. to mm.; cilia line interval, anterior mm., posterior Fio. 206.—Opalina japonica, from Rana japonica, X 117 diamktius. This eastern Opalina differs from O. ranarum in having many individuals with the posterior end abruptly sharp pointed. A few have a virguloid form never observed in O. ranai'um. Also many of the nuclei are more elongated, and some of these do not give in- dication of being in active motosis. The nuclei, too, run much smaller than in 0. ranarum. The species seems distinct.
