Innywa is a small village besides the Irrawaddy river to the north of Mandalay. A father proudly displays his baby in the cool early light as the sun breaks through dawn mist. The babies face is covered in tanaka, a paste made from ground tanaka wood and water. It acts as a sunscreen and to ward off evil spirits.
