It is sad to relate that, while these negotiations werein progress, the Prince de Conti was preparing himselffor the duties of matrimony by frequenting public daismasques and other questionable entertainments, and lead-ing generally so dissipated a life that his health remainedseriously affected for some time afterwards. The betrothal took place on 21 February 1654, atthe Louvre, and, on the following day, the marriage wascelebrated, by the Archbishop of Bourges, in the QueensChapel.
