TheWoodward Iron Company Railroad usesthese lOO-ton cars mounted on two six-wheel trucks, and officials of tliat roadexpress tlie utmost satisfaction with their clear of the center sills and there isample space between its flanges and thewheels. In fact, the truck has none ofthe appearance of crowded parts evidentin many truck designs. The spread of thewheels is four feet four inches, and thewheel base of the truck is, therefore,cigln feet eight inches. Single shoebrakes are used, but the truck permits of. is of the ordinary type of such cars. Theequipment of the car is similar to that ofthe previously mentioned lOO-ton car. Itslight weight is 45,900 lbs. and its capacityis 140,000 lbs. This brings the ratio oftare to load per cent. A line paintedhorizontally on the side of the car showswhere a full load of ore would stand, ifthe ore ran pretty regularly at 110 lbs. tothe cubic foot. On both cars the UnitedStates safety appliances are TYPE OF 100-TON STEEL \R FOR THE \VOODW.\RD tOMP.\XY. performance. The Pressed Steel Car Pittsburgh built them. The car shown in the first of ourillustrations is No. 1914, and Mr. A. , chairman of the company,writing to Railway and LocomotiveEngineering, on the subject says: ThelOO-ton car. No. 1914, is a sample car andhas given excellent service. During thefirst year it was on our railroad, ithandled 11,800 tons
