Lidia Tsalieva, the former director of school No. 1 in Beslan, North Ossetia, Russia, during a commemoration ceremony for the victims of a terrorist attack in the school, one year after the hostage drama that left hundreds of people dead, among them many children. Terrorists demanding that Russian troops pull back from the republic of Chechnya took over a thousand school children and their teachers hostage in the school on the 1st of September, 2004. Hundreds of hostages, including 186 children, died when Russian forces stormed the school on the 3rd of September. Altogether 334 people were killed during the three days of the hostage drama.
