Men Selling Cattle At The Monday Market, Keren

Keren, formerly known as Cheren, is the second-largest city in Eritrea. It is situated 90 kilometers northwest of Asmara at an altitude of 1,390 meters. The town sprawls on a wide basin surrounded by granitic mountains on all sides. It serves as the capital of the Anseba region, and is home to the Bilen ethnic group. The city is inhabited both by a Muslim and Catholic community and comes alive on Mondays when the weekly market takes place. Early in the morning, people come from villages in the surroundings to sell or buy cattle and camels.
