These are the extensor hallucis brevis muscle and the extensor digitorum brevis muscles, used to extend (straighten) the big toe and the three middle toes. The view at right also shows a semi-transparent view of some of the muscles of the lower leg, as well as some of the ligaments (white). The ligaments most clearly seen are the strap-like ones of the ankle running across the base of the tibia. To the right of the tibia is the fibula.
