A heavy Styrian matchlock wall gun, circa 1560/70 Heavy, forged barrel with cannon muzzle in 28 mm calibre, the middle part octagonal and offset, with powder pan on the side. Iron matchlock with remnants of the red lead mounting on the lockplate (cock and trigger are replacements). The original, blackened wooden full stock with long "fishtail butt". Length 149 cm. Provenance: Sotheby's, London, 15 December 2004, lot 160. Originally from Frondsberg Castle in Styria.
