Poets, actors and writers gathered outside Pentonville Prison in North London where they read poems in protest against a ban on books and parcels from family members for prisoners. The ban comes about as a result of a clampdown on the importation of drugs and contraband into prisons. Actress Vanessa Redgrave was joined by Poet Lareate Carol Ann Duffy, actor Sam West and Shami Chakrabarti of Liberty amongst others, for the event organised by The Howard League for Penal Reform.
