Astronomical instruments at Maharaja Jai Singh II's Jantar Mantar Observatory in Jaipur Rajasthan India was built in 1716


Maharaja Jai Singh II's Jantar Mantar ( literally means instrument for measuring the harmony of the heavens) Observatory is next to the Palace in Jaipur India. Its construction in 1716 was a unique achievement and marvel of was the largest of five such observatories built by the Maharaja and the only one made of red stone faced with marble. he used it daily and was a knowledgeable are 17 instruments in the complex including the Kranti Yantra measuring the longitude and latitude of celestial bodies.
