Golden Elephant Statue at Erawan Museum, Bangkok


Erawan Museum is unique for it is housed in the body of the world's largest bronze elephant. All the same it is a functioning religious site as well and many local people come to worship. The museum showcases a priceless collection of ancient religious items. The lower pedestal houses the oldest artefacts while the upper level contains ancient Buddha statues and other antique objects. It is located in a tropical garden with a coffee shop and several small shops selling local snacks and food. Every year Leukrathong festival is celebrated at the Erawan museum including cultural shows and dances, competitions and various food stalls. Opening hours are 8am-6pm, admission fee is 150 baht for adults and 50 baht for children. 50 baht for visiting the grounds only.
