Oceanic whitetip shark, Carcharhinus longimanus, from Elphinestone, Red Sea, Egypt.

C. longimanus or Oceanic whitetip can be encountered in open water, close to reef structures, where they search for prey- tuna, mackerel, turtles and smaller rays. They are often accompanied by smaller juvenile bony fish, which seek protection swimming around this marine predator and also to benefit from left overs. Oceanic whitetips are known for close encounters with divers as they are relatively curious. One female can give birth to 1-15 live pups after a gestation time of 10 to 12 months. They reach sexual major in an estimated age of 6 to 7 years.
