The tinted leaves and seed pods of the eucalyptus and the colored buds of the willow are remark- ably effective and quite appropriate as a setting for the display of spring gowns and millinery. The supply of orchids is much larger now and single blooms are retailing at $, 50 cents cheaper than the price of the last few months. From retail establishments comes the report that cut flower trade is holding up remarkably well, without the slump usually experienced at this time of the year. Only a few dull days have marked themselves on the florists' calendar and those were immediately after- the close of the holidays. A large volume of funeral work is being done, and this, ill conjunction with a fair amount of decorating, is keeping the stores steadily busy. Various Notes. A new flower store has been opened on Geary street, opposite Union square, ? by a firm composed of J. B. Avansino, formerly of Avansino Bros.; a former associate of his, Jack Lavazzola, and J. B. Pagano, who has been connected with Pelicano, Rossi & Co. for some time. The business js practically a con- tinuation of the one conducted by Avan- sino Bros., on Geary street, below Stock- ton. The expiration of the lease at this location made it necessary to move.
