It is not unusual for inventions to be announced as oflarge importance as money savers. So simple are the im-provements in principle and operation that those benefitedmarvel at the lateness of the discovery, yet after experiencewith such improvements it is often difficult to conceive howgood results were obtained without them. The Liberty trolley harp is an Invention of this years ago this serviceable device was invented, andthe flexible head trolley harp was offered to the street railwaytrade. The advantages of the flexible head were at once con-ceded and its value as an effective money and labor savingdevice was established. Indeed, so great was the interest in. Liberty Cushion Harp. the improved harp that several street railway mechanicsconnected with, some of the larger roads talked freely withthe manufacturers regarding the essentials of an ideal trolleyharp. They believed that the flexible head had been an im-portant step toward the perfection of such a harp, but there ^was still lacking a harp that would reduce to a minimum theinjury to wheels, poles and overhead, caused by arcing andother difficulties incident to a wheel leaving the wire. The manufacturers of the already improved harp tookthese suggestions seriously, and after extended experimentingthe cushion shank was developed and tested on various , after being tested and found successful on a hundredor more street railways, the Liberty cushion harp was placedupon the market. About the same time, this harp was exhibited at theColumbus Convention, where it attracted merited that time the harp has been further perfected and itmay no
