Showing the difference between the Centrefire (Left) & Rimfire Cartridge (Right). The Centrefire firring pin strikes a seperate replaceable Primer but the rimfire firing pin strikes and deforms the rim. It is cheaper to produce but not re-usable. The Rimfires need to deform the case limits internal pressures and therefore power - hence the size difference.
