Mount Kilimanjaro. Satellite image of the summit calderas (volcanic craters) of Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania. North is at top. This whole area is Kibo Peak, with the two most recent calderas seen at centre. The larger one is the Reusch Crater, with the Ash Pit at its centre. The Ash Pit is 400 metres wide and 130 metres deep. Glacial ice and snow (white) are seen on the surrounding slopes. Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa, reaching an elevation of 5895 metres. The summit peak (Uhuru Peak) is at lower left. Image taken by the Ikonos satellite on 15 March 2001.
