CONWY, Wales — Quay House, also known as the Smallest House in Great Britain, stands next to the walls of Conwy Castle. Until 1900, it was a functional but small residence but is now a tourist attraction.

Photograph by David Coleman. The Quay House in Conwy, Wales, holds the title of the Smallest House in Great Britain, measuring just 72 inches wide and 122 inches high. This tiny red-painted dwelling, dating back to the 16th century, sits snugly against the medieval town walls near Conwy Castle. The house's last resident, a 6-foot-3-inch fisherman named Robert Jones, was forced to move out in 1900 when the house was declared unfit for human habitation. Today, it serves as a popular tourist attraction, offering visitors a glimpse into compact living from centuries past. The Quay House's location next to Conwy Castle creates a striking visual contrast. The tiny structure stands dwarfed by the massive stone walls of the 13th-century fortress, highlighting the diverse architectural heritage of this historic Welsh town. This juxtaposition of scale and history makes the Smallest House not just a quirky attraction, but a unique part of Conwy's rich cultural landscape.
