Tne Master Car Builders type is no-where near perfection yet. It is not uni-form, so that the different forms ofknuckles and heads will couple and staycoupled with each other, and in almost allof them two of the same pattern will notstay coupled after the parts wear so theknuckle gets lost motion. This is the next subject for inventorsof new couplers to work at. From thepast experience railroad companies havehad with coupler inventors there is likelyto be plenty of new PLANT SYSTEM OF INDICATOR RIGGING. Michigan was the first State to takeaction on this matter of a legal type forthe automatic coupler. After an extendedtrial, in actual service, of various couplersusing a link, the Master Car Builderstype was formally approved in January,1888, by Commissioner of Railroads JohnT.
