Several of the speciesenter fresh waters, and others are found in brackish waters. Numer-ous species occur on the west coast of Africa and about the CapeVerde Islands, but, so far as known, none enters European waters. Thegenus is represented in our waters by about 8 species, all of thosesufficiently abundant being food-fishes of some little value. Pomadasis panameusis is a well-marked species occurring on thePacific coast of tropical America, and rather common at both Panama andMazatian.
