Gate across a trail at Santa National Wildlife Refuge with a temporary sign warning visitors to keep out of a dangerous area in the park.

March 9, 2018, a fire intended to burn river cane on the bank of the Rio Grande spread with the wind across the river and began to burn grassland and brush on the Texas side. More than 330 acres of the Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge was destroyed before containment fires controlled the fire's spread.
