Anglo Saxon men in tunics.
"Anglo Saxon man in tunic without mantle (19), Anglo Saxon man in tunic without mantle in boots (20), and Anglo Saxon man in embroidered tunic (21)." "One can see in 19, 20, and 21, tunics that were worn without mantles. They rarely reached lower than the knee. They were fastened around the waist with a belt. This produced, at the hips, large pleats that served as ornaments. Often, in pictures that show persons of distinguished rank, the clothes are embroidered in various colours or even decorated with precious stones (21)." Handcolored copperplate engraving from Robert von Spalart's "Historical Picture of the Costumes of the Principal People of Antiquity and of the Middle Ages" (1796).
