General McCullochgave orders to march on Springfield at nine oclock on Fridaynight (August 9), but a threatened storm caused them to becountermanded, and the troops were ordered to hold them-selves in readiness for an advance. They therefore kept underarms all night, every moment expecting to march. In the mean time General Lyon, who had news of McCul-lochs coming, determined to surprise him if possible. So, on.
