Jaime Pinkham, principal deputy assistant secretary of the Army for civil works, was treated to a meal of muktuk, frozen whale skin and blubber, during a meeting with members of the Native Village of Barrow on Feb. 23. His conversation with native leaders focused on issues and activities associated the Barrow Coastal Erosion Project. By constructing a rock revetment and elevating a street above the reach of ocean waves, the Army Corps of Engineers – Alaska District aims to alleviate the risk of storm damage for the community.
