A David Austin English Rose, The Pilgrim. Photographed in the garden of David Austin’s Nursery, Albrighton, Wolverhampton, UK.

A David Austin English Rose, The Pilgrim - A strong upright shrub with almost smooth stems to around 1m in England or higher, a climber to 3m in warmer climates. Leaves dark green and shining. Flowers in sprays, fully double with small crowded petals, opening flat, creamy-white on the edges with deeper yellow shadows, and good old rose scent. Raised by Austin in 1991. Parentage: ‘Graham Thomas’ x ‘Yellow Button’. in his “English Roses” (Conran Octopus 1993) David Austin tells how he had long felt that a cross of this parentage would produce an excellent rose. It was a difficult cross to make since ‘Yellow Button’ produces very little pollen, and it was only after years of persistence, that a seedling was obtained which was worthy of the potantial of the cross. Photographed in the garden of David Austin’s Nursery, Albrighton, Wolverhampton, UK.
