This photo shows the surrender of a German U-Boat U-58 to the American destroyer Fanning, known as Old-37 to its crew. The incident of the American destroyers Fanning and Nicholson dropping depth charges and bring U-boat to surface was reported Nov 24, 1917. The actual incident happened on Nov 17, 1917. The Fanning picked up four officers and 35 enlisted men crew as prisoners of war - and within minutes the U-boat had sank, as the Germans had scuttled the boat so it would not fall into the hands of the enemy.
