Large Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy dolls adorn a bench near the old railroad depot in Arcola, Illinois in honor of a famous native son. The community is known for the Amish population that exists around Arcola, however, it is also known for being the birthplace of John Barton Gruelle, the founder of Raggedy Ann and Andy. The artist, illustrator and story teller Gruelle was born in Arcola in 1880.
