(&) The Decomposition of Carbon Dioxide.—The influence oflight upon the evolution of oxygen is greater the more carbonic acidis contained in the air; only those rays which are visible have thepower of decomposing caibonic dioxide, and those which appear bright-est to the eye (the yellow rays) are alone as efficacious in this processas all the others put together. (c) The Formation of Starch in Chlorophyll Granules.—Theformation of starch is a function of chlorophyll granules exposed tolight, its absorption a function of chlorophyll granules not exposed tolight.
