Threading the rod andfitting the nut will take 30 minutes more. After the crossheadfit is completed and before the rod is finally taken out of thecrosshead, the key slot is scribed. This operation requires 91 minutes, thedetailed operation being as follows: Prepare machine and set V blocks 15 min. Set mill and rough out slot 32 min. Change tool and finish mill slct 34 min. Remove rod and clear machine 10 min. If a new key is required a tin template is made from whichthe blacksmith forges a key and punches a cotter pin the key will take 60 minutes, and fiHng and fitting it inthe rod and crosshead will require 60 minutes more. The total time for finishing the rod complete is 479 minut
