Dunstaffnage Castle near Oban, NW Scotland


Dunstaffnage Castle overlooking Forth of Lorn, Connel near Oban. Constructed prior to 1275 and overlooking the Firth of Lorn. It was the stronghold of the Scottish MacDougall clan. The castle has a large curtain wall, and was captured by Robert the Bruce in 1309. It also became the temporary prison of Flora MacDonald in 1746.
