German armored cars driving through a town in the Schatzlar-Freiheit area on Oct 1938 after the annexation of the Sudetenland. After the annexation of Austria, Hitler demanded that he be given the Sudeten region of Czechoslovakia. At the Munich conference in September 1938 the Western powers agreed to this and the nazis occupied the area. Not long after Hitler broke his promise and invaded the rest of Czechoslovakia before turning his attention to Poland. Bundesarchiv, Bild 146-2005-0182 / CC-BY-SA
